-
- There do exist fully bidirectional ports for the PC, and that`s what my
- dealer said to sell to me. A connection Amiga<->PC is only possible if
- the PC port is bidirectonal, because otherwise (the Laplink-method) the
- PC does not use 8 bit parallel, but only 4 bit parallel as I could see
- from the cabling shematics coming with WarpConnnect and Linux. This is,
- of course, not supported by the Amiga PLIP driver. Furthermore, the PC
- seems to use a different handshaking (not just STROBE and ACK as the
- AMIGA does). However, these problems could be solved, as you said.
-
- But the real problem showed up when I started the OS/2 PLIP driver
- (PRNANDIS.OS2) just for a try: this driver does polling and uses more
- than 50% CPU time on my Pentium 90. This really sucks... And I`m not
- able and willing to implement a interupt-driven driver from scratch.
-
- It seems as if I had to search another solution or spend the bucks for
- an AMIGA Ethernet board. In the meantime, I`ll try SLIP again, needing
- to change the cable if I want to use my modem. :-(
